Pick Up Those Backgammon Checkers and Get Started

Even though they may not be immediate clear, backgammon rules are not difficult to master. A backgammon board is full of different colors; just about all of which mean nothing, they’re just design.  But, this can be confusing for people coming from chess and checkers where the colors of the board do mean something.  But if you’re approaching a backgammon board for the first time, fear not, with a little perseverance you can break that need to associate colors with movement.

On a backgammon board you have long triangles, called points, which you move the backgammon checkers on.  The points tend to be different colors but don’t let that affect you; you can move on any point, as can your opponent, unless a point is being blocked by an opponent, which is to say they have two or more checkers on the point.  If they have no checkers then you can simply move there and if they have one checker you can land there and “hit” their checker, taking it off the board.  You will find the backgammon checkers are different colors, usually white and black, but this is just so players can identify which checkers are theirs; it has no impact on what points the checkers can move to.

Once you can get comfortable with that, then you need to play.  Backgammon is a game that needs to be played to learn and for beginners there is no better place than online backgammon.  Online you can play with thousands of people from around the world and the computer can keep you playing within the rules. Play backgammon online to get some practice or to try out the different varieties online casinos have to offer. Some places to check out if you’re looking to get started are Bkgm or Play65, though depending on what you’re looking for you should make up your own mind about what site to frequent.

So, now that you know, pick up your board and backgammon checkers and get started!
